The Hunt for growing cherry blossoms in Central India

Everyone wants a tree full of beautiful flowers in their garden but then those cherry blossoms won't survive the 40"C of heat. And Tabuiya Rosea(Pink Trumpet Tree) doesn't look that appealing, In fact they don't shed their leaves and produce flowers until they are fully mature. But we have a beautiful alternative for the climate of all of India, from our Himalayas

Peaches are very beautiful ornamental trees and also produce very delicious fruits as well. I always wanted to give my garden a Himalayan touch by planting a flowering tree... After trying out Sakuras, pears, apples, and many other, all of which failed to thrive. I finally decided, If I can grow roses in my garden, Why not just try out the rose family!

Did you know Indian wild cherry, peaches, plums, almonds, roses all belong to the same stone fruit family! and all produce very beautiful blossoms.

SO basically we have three options now.. go for peaches,or plums, or almonds. Now Peaches and plums both produce pink flowers, almonds produce white flowers. But plum will not be as suitable because it needs much more chilling than the other two. Of course, you can go for them but most probably most of the buds will fall off.

The Indian wild cherry would have been the best but since there is too much confusion in the nurseries, I mean cherry trees are both flowering and non-flowring, so you just can't invest 5-6years to find a non-flowring tree surprise.

The only options left are peaches and almonds,  since almond trees produce unedible fruit, white flowers with no fragrance. the best suited are Peach Trees, the ultra fast-growing trees with beautiful pink, fragrant flowers and delicious fruit as well.

Now the question is where to find a peach tree... Do you grow them from seeds?NO!. You need to find a grafted one probably online If you can't find it, grow the plant from seed, but ask someone from the mountains to send you a peach twig and graft it on the plant. Growing from seed should be the last option.

Now your peach tree will do very good in the climate of Delhi, will have a very good growth rate.. But be careful, always provide it partial shade in months of April, May, June, July, August until the plant is at least 6feet in height.
